Congratulations to our U13 girls team!

Essex County Champions

Having won the U13 Girls County Competition Group 1, the team went on to play Wanstead and Snaresbrook CC who had won Group 2.

At the Harefield ground, Wanstead won the toss and chose to bat first. They set a stretching target of 123 from their 16 overs with great batting performances including retirement at 50 for Deetya.
Coggeshall Spinners had to be fully alert in the field to contain Wanstead’s run rate. Few balls passed keeper Lucie who was super focussed, Darcy’s safe hands prevented many runs and Jemma, Lylah and Arabella did great work on the boundaries and backing up.

Solid bowling from Eliza, Annabel, Saling, Beatrice and Darcy meant they managed to take 6 wickets from the innings with Saling taking 2 of them.

The 2nd innings began with Coggeshall facing strong spin and pace bowlers from Wanstead. However, the batters found their rhythm and were meeting the required run rate from the outset. Annabel retired at 51 and Wanstead then had a strong spell bringing a high level of excitement to both sides as they both could see a possibly victory in sight. With 1.5 overs to go, Coggeshall
needed 1 run to win and Wanstead needed 1 wicket. Arabella (youngest player aged 10) who was playing her debut hardball match walked out to face her first ball. She stood her ground and edged the ball behind her to score the final winning run for Coggeshall Spinners.

It was a great match worthy of the occasion and either team could have won.

What a season the girls have had, they have gone from strength to strength and the progression in all players is great to see.

Well done to all of you who played today and the rest of the squad who couldn’t play today but were instrumental in getting the team to the final - Millie, Olive, Daisy, Jorja, Flo and Annie
