The 2nd XI opened their league season without their Captain and as it turned out without any tea arrangements….well done skipper! Many thanks to Lorraine Green for saving the clubs blushes!
On the field things were better organized with stand in skipper Craig Leziak opening the batting with some delightful shots and scoring a run a ball 120. Ably supported by Charlie Green (55) and Sam Blackwell (29) and with some late running from Darren Green and Jack Simons Coggy reached 242 in their 45 overs. A sizeable total considering only 88 runs were scored via boundaries with no sixes! Obviously a good day for the oldest member of the team to get a strategic first baller!
Mistley got off to a strong start, exceeding the 5+ runs an over required rate on what continued to be a good strip and helped by both our opening bowlers still clearing the winter cobwebs! The Mistley openers looked in good nick before Coggy made a break through and began to reel in the runs. Wickets began to fall at regular intervals but Coggy could not dislodge the hard hitting No 4 D Smith who was keeping Mistley in touch. Eventually Smith was run out for 80 and the Mistley Challenge died out with CTCC completing the victory by 13 runs. Both Craig Leziak and Ben Chaplin bowled their 15 over spells with figures of 2-47 and 3-75 respectively and a mention for returning Coggy player Dave Denny who bowled overs at the end and kept the Mistley tail in check. A challenging opening match for the 2s again played in a great spirit by both teams.
