Rusty!

The U15 season began in customary fashion with a rusty Coggeshall succumbing to a good Eight Ash Green side in a pretty one sided affair.

Coggeshall opened the game with U13 / U14 batting pair of McCabe and Doubleday and all looked good with the pair moving comfortably to 14 off the first five overs before Jonjo fell to a sharp catch. Progress was continued when Captain Wishart walked out and at 37 off less than ten overs hopes were high. Then it sort of fell apart. Harry Doubleday who had looked in no trouble mistimed a hit off a full toss and was well caught for 20. There then followed a succession of batsmen who got in and then got out (most guilty of not moving their feet) for single figures and when Wishart was out for 18 we were 54 for 4 and limped to 77 for 9, with chris ford the only lower order batsman to hit a boundary. although coggeshall were rusty, fair play to the EAG bowlers who kept it tight, especially J Parry who took for 4 - 7, two of which were excellently disguised slower balls.

The EAG response was swift and brutal, reaching 56 without loss and knocking the runs off for one wicket in just 11 overs. The Coggeshall bowlers were trying variation in their bowling mixing short bowling with very short and this aided the batsmen no end with two sixes and nine fours being plundered.

To be fair it was the first game and nets have been sporadic and the boys never stopped trying and it is a case of put it behind us and move onwards and upwards to a home game against sudbury on sunday morning.
