Coggeshall U13s travelled to Colchester on Sunday with high hopes of pushing the strong Colchester side. The U13s blend some senior match experience with less experienced players but all approach the game with great enthusiasm. Jonjo McCabe and Louis Gibson opened the batting and looked in little discomfort as they pushed the score to a quick 22 in 3 overs before Louis missed a straight one to be LBW. The suave Harry Nicholls joined the unflappable Jonjo and together they added 55 before Jonjo was bowled. From here CTCC struggled as the younger members of the side were met by the more experienced C&EE bowlers and we saw wickets go quickly. Jonny (Flintoff) Allen, Sam Cousins and Jacob Ford all tried their best before we had a late stand from Max Brassington and Zander Mohan of 24 which pushed the CTCC score to a reasonable 96.
Colchester looked confident to start but an early Ford wicket set them back before McCabe also struck early. However a stand of 48 then pushed Colchester to the brink of victory. Coggy were not out of it and wickets from George Morris and Sam Cousins rocked Colchester before they finally reached their target in 17 overs. The young Coggy side should be proud of their efforts and will no doubt cause bigger clubs such as Colchester more troubles in the future.
