Kempster sees CTCC home!

Monday was tough day for many at the club but it was perhaps fitting that the first game after Sunday was an U13s youth game and the performances of both sides celebrated our sport. CTCC U13 were playing Old Parkonians in the region wide Peter Coe Cup.
Old Parkonians batted first and saw young opener K Kullar bat all the way through for a not out 62 and with contributions from E Kalley (14), R Karuna (25) and Extra’s 34 (Coggy coaches please note!!) built a formidable total of 159-3 in their 30 overs. Coggeshall involved all their players in the bowling giving some valuable experience for the younger members of the team in this high standard cricket.
Coggeshall knew when they went into bat that they would need partnerships and concentration to reach the 5.2 an over target. Unfortunately Coggy got off to a poor start with first Louis Gibson and then Jonjo “run machine” McCabe falling early. In came Will Kempster ,a young man also in form with the bat, and Harry Nicholls who began to build the innings. Will, scoring freely and Harry supporting him keeping the scoreboard ticking over. These two took the score up to 100 in the 21st over before Harry succumbed to the pace of Kalley. In came U11 Alistair Marlow who immediately began creaming cover drives through the field to the boundary, giving Kempster a few overs to take a breath. This partnership added 25 in the next 5 overs before Marlowe was bowled. Coggy were still in touch with the target although the run rate was creeping up and they now needed 35 runs from the remaining 5 overs. Enter Max Brassington who had to hit the ground running and continue to support the Kempster led drive to the finish! Kempster continued to hit the boundries and Coggeshall reached their target in the 29th over with Will K on 104 not out and Max Brassington a vital 7 not out.
The game was played with a superb spirit from both sides and a great atmosphere generated by both sets of supporters. Old Parkonians were a credit to their club both on and off the field and the nature of the morning was shown as many of the boys continued to play together on the outfield for some time after the match had ended! Lastly many thanks to the McCabes for producing a fine breakfast for the players (and supporters!) and scoring and for Mr Kempster for umpiring and particularly the elegant trip and stumble which entertained us all!
