U13’s v Braintree, 28/5.
A gloomy and damp afternoon with a ‘will we - won’t we get to play’ scenario soon evaporated as the sun came out right about the time we won the toss and and elected to bowl.
Patrick and Sam opened the bowling superbly with a maiden from Patrick and a wicket in Sam’s first over, shortly followed by a superb run out by Sam as well as a dramatic boundary stop in the field, an all round excellent performance in the field from the outset.
The excellent bowling continued with another wicket in the 7th over from Ned putting Braintree under pressure on 26/3.
To their credit they dug in and their batsmen number 4 and 5 stayed in for the rest of the innings, although consistently good bowling from Coggeshall kept them to a modest total of 106 after their 20 overs.
Special mention to Beatrice for slowing things down considerably giving just 1 run off her 2 overs.
Everyone bowled their 2 overs well, and Toby did a good job keeping wicket with a stumping and giving just a single bye in Braintree’s innings.
Theo and Ned opened the batting for Coggeshall and worked very well together, communicating and running everything, no scoring opportunities were missed. Congratulations to Ned for knocking up a quick 55. He was then retired and we saw Eamon and Louis come in, both of whom succumbed to the very accurate 4th Witham bowler.
Patrick and Sam saw the game out confidently gaining the last runs needed and we comfortably achieved the required runs with 8 overs to spare.
A great team performance, and good sportsmanship shown all round.
Well done U13’s, next game is Sunday 9th June against Witham.
Thanks very much to Andrew Uthwatt Bouverie for excellent umpiring.
